MewTwo is easily one of the most sought after Legendary Pokemon since he was first released- and after Pokemon Go came out, his popularity has sky rocketed. Not only is MewTwo incredibly difficult to catch but he’s also very powerful.

But before you can add this powerful legend to your team, you need to learn more about MewTwo and how to defeat it in a battle.

mewtwo strengths

MewTwo is a Legendary Pokemon, which means you’ll be in for a fight once you encounter it. Knowing MewTwo’s weaknesses as well as preparing before hand is the key to beating it and eventually capturing it, so let’s learn some more about it.

MewTwo has a maximum Combat Power (CP) of 4178 and its stats start from 300 Attack, 182 Defense and 214 Stamina.

MewTwo is a Psychic-type Pokemon which means it is weak to Bug, Dark and Ghost-type Pokemon. On the flip side, this means it’s strong against Fighting and Psychic-type attacks.

To even stand a chance you’ll want to bring your strongest Bug, Dark and/or Ghost-type Pokemon. In addition to Pokemon make sure you bring your strongest items and berries to help capture/weaken it. We also have some strong recommendations for Pokemon + movesets to bring, click here to view those.

How to Get MewTwo

Unfortunately due to the Pandemic, Niantic has disabled EX Raids and therefore, at the time of writing this, you cannot capture MewTwo. They have stated that EX Raids will eventually return, so cross your fingers! EX raids may already be back when you read this, so check for yourself.

So you have a strong team ready to take on MewTwo, but where can you fight him? Well you can only challenge this foe in EX Raids which means you’ll need an EX Raid Pass. To get an EX Raid pass, you’ll have to earn them by joining and successfully completing Raids. These passes can only be used at the specified Gym on the specified time.

But hold up! Because this Legendary Pokemon will only appear as a boss in these Raids during Special Events. So keep an eye out on the news section of the game for when one of these events is coming up and prepare accordingly.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be joining and fighting in raids as you can still get some seriously strong Pokemon and other useful rewards. You can also get some experience participating in Raids which I’d argue is more important.

But if the stars align and MewTwo is available as a Raid Boss in an event, then it’s time to do battle. So make sure you and a few other prepared trainers are ready, join the Raid together and beat this iconic power-house together! Don’t forget your golden razz berries!
